Red Star Newsletter - May 2025

Hello from Red Star! Curious about what we’ve been up to? Read on to find out!

Zenith Volume 4

Early in May, Red Star released the latest volume of our theoretical journal Zenith: Volume 4. The fourth volume of Zenith is the first collection of Red Star’s writings following our Points of Unity revision in late February. This issue of Zenith delves into topics ranging from the necessity of member led organizing to the necessity of international solidarity, a sharp critique of a labor strategy that doesn’t prioritize socialist politics, book reviews critical to the current political climate, and Red Star’s orientation to DSA with regards to the national organization and our conception of a vanguard.

Red Star Slate of NPC Candidates for 2025 DSA Convention

This is a pivotal moment for DSA as our organization grows amid rising radicalization and capitalist crisis. To meet the challenges ahead, we need a bold, experienced leadership body committed to anti-imperialism and building DSA into the party of the working class. Red Star is proud to present our slate of National Political Committee candidates—proven organizers who are ready to strengthen DSA’s revolutionary outlook and let members cook!

You can read more about Red Star’s NPC candidates here.

Red Star At-Large Delegate Candidates

With the DSA convention coming up in just 2 months, Red Star is running the following candidates for At-Large delegation seats. If you are an at-large DSA member and want to help Red Star get to the convention in August, we encourage you to rank our candidates and this list of friendly non-Red Star candidates in the at-large delegation election! At-large ballots close on June 6th!

Our Satellite program has launched!

Late March, Red Star launched our new Satellite program after months of developing a new prospective member program. Since then, we’ve had several dozen applicants from all over the country in chapters, YDSA, and at-large. Our first group of Satellite members are already engaged in our program, which includes political education events, reading groups on Red Star core texts, and interacting with Red Star members on discussions about DSA and politics abroad.  Note that Red Star expects most applicants to have been in DSA for some period of time before applying, and we highly value leadership within DSA in qualified applicants. We also appreciate applicants with a strong vision for DSA, those who are well-versed in scientific socialism, are effective at communication, and, of course, are aligned with our Points of Unity

Want to join? Fill out this application and you will hear from our Membership Committee.

Red Star Submitted Amendments!

Red Star has submitted the following amendments for resolutions at the national convention. Amendment to R44: Resolution on Staff, Contractors, and Budgeting, and For a Member-Led Grievance Response

The first amendment, authored by Red Star members John L., and Shane K. more effectively centers chapters and members by aligning the base resolution more closely with best and realistic practices for managing organization funds. It defines key terms, prioritizes chapter funding, replaces rigid convention budgeting with a flexible spending framework, and improves communication between the NPC and staff union through CBA-guided collaboration.

The second amendment, written by two National Grievance Panelists (one of whom is Red Star member Matt N.), would:

  1. Move the responsibilities of the “National Grievance Coordinator” position to the NGP chairs.
  2. Put the responsibility for providing review and recommended revisions to the grievance process with the NGP, as the front-line responders to grievance issues and challenges.
  3. Develop the NGP chair roles and responsibilities.

Red Star encourages all to sign on to these amendments so they can be heard at convention come August. The deadline to sign on to amendments for resolutions is June 29th!
